Thetford Academy Year 8 Student Crowned County U15 Shot Put Champion
BackThetford Academy is delighted to congratulate Year 8 student, Leon on becoming the County U15 Shot Put Champion last week.
The Norfolk Championships were held in Kings Lynn and was hosted by Athletics Norfolk. This is the second time in a row that Leon has finished the competition as Norfolk Champion - an outstanding achievement.
Not only has Leon been crowned County Champion but has won the first gold medal for Thetford Athletics Club, of which Leon has been a member for 4 years but has just reached the age at which athletes start to specialise in events.
Leon is a very talented individual and pursues a variety of hobbies. Currently studying at Thetford Academy, Leon also dedicates a lot of his time to training with his local cricket team, as well as a significant commitment to playing the French Horn.
Despite his fantastic achievements, Leon is relatively new to the sport, having been training and competing in shot put for about one year. Leon does not currently have any long-term plans for athletics but is keen to keep training and competing whilst he enjoys playing sport.
Leon said:
"I am really proud to be Norfolk Champion again this year. I've been training really hard, and this achievement shows my dedication and hard work. I'd like to thank my coach, Dean, for all of his help and support".
