Portuguese Ambassador Visits Thetford Academy

In recent weeks Thetford Academy welcomed the Portuguese Ambassador into the school. In 2022, Thetford Academy became one of the first secondary schools in the country to become a partner of Instituto Camoes, they are a public institute and part of their mission is to promote the Portuguese language and culture, specifically looking at education in primary, secondary and higher education institutions. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Thetford Academy and Instituto Cameos.

Since signing the Memorandum this is the first visit the academy has had from the Ambassador of Portugal and as such we have taken the opportunity to officially unveil a plaque to celebrate this. The Ambassador was very keen to meet our school community and has invited the students to pay him a visit at the Embassy in the near future.

The Ambassador was extremely impressed with our students and very pleased to see that the Portuguese language has a place in our curriculum and reemphasised its importance. We hope that this visit will contribute to an increasing cooperation between our school and the Instituto Camoes in the future, in an increasing promotion of Portuguese language and culture in our school.

We were also delighted to be joined by the Consul General of Portugal as well as other official dignitaries and representatives from the Town Council and County Council.
