We are pleased to announce that Thetford Academy has been appointed as the lead school for music in Breckland, a prestigious role that highlights our commitment to music education. We have been recognised as a school that goes above and beyond in our music education offer, with the hopes that we can help support other schools to improve their offering.

As a lead school, we will now collaborate with other schools leading the Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub, driving innovation and excellence to enhance music education. Our responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver and model high-quality curriculum and co-curricular music
  • Support teacher development through mentoring, training and networks
  • Create inclusive pathways for musical progression
  • Shape and deliver localised music education activity
  • Act as advocates for the power of music in education

Dr Fordham, Principal at Thetford Academy, expressed his excitement:

“We are so pleased to be the lead school for Breckland for the Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub. Music at Thetford has gone from strength to strength in recent years, especially in terms of our wider extra-curricular offer, and we are very much looking forward to working with other schools in the Breckland region to ensure that music has the place in school that it deserves.”

Alison Brain, Norfolk & Suffolk Music Hub Lead, added:

“Our Lead Schools aren’t just participants in the Music Hub – they’re leaders, collaborators and changemakers. We’re excited to work alongside them to build a more connected, inclusive and ambitious music education offer for every young person across Norfolk and Suffolk.”

Our music and performing arts offer at Thetford Academy includes clubs at break and lunchtimes for students to get involved with, as well as enrichments and after-school activities that allow students to discover even more about music through practise and rehearsal with support from staff and peers.

We offer performance opportunities throughout the year and are proud of our school bands and ensembles that include all age groups at our school. By creating a community of musicians and performers at our school, we afford our students the ability to share ideas and work together to create fantastic music.

By taking part in this initiative, we aim to provide our students with even more opportunities to develop their musical talents and support other schools to foster their own communities of young musicians.
